Jack-O-Launch at PumpkinFest by Stormy on October 13, 2001
It's a day of partying and debauchery hosted by the government. How could you possibly go wrong?
Today had to be one of the strangest days of my short life so far! We saw humans dressed in funny looking outfits shoot something they referred to as "gourds" into the air. Pumpkins would be launched from various contraptions, sail through the air and crash to the ground in an explosion of pulp, sending pumpkin innards all over the place! Amazingly, this waste of perfectly good squash inspired cheers of approval from the crowd!
PumpkinFest is an annual free fall celebration hosted by the City of Aurora at the historic DeLaney Farm near city center. It attracts thousands of visitors to explore vendor booths, play in a pumpkin patch, sample food, listen to live music, take hay rides and, of course, watch the pumpkin launch.
Come early to reserve your spot along the fence because this is a very popular event! Teams compete for distance and accuracy when launching pumpkins. There is a lot of showmanship and theatrics involved in the hurling of pumpkins.
This is a very fun, festive event to attend and while it can be a touch strange, it's guaranteed to be entertaining for all ages.
