| National Speleological Society by Stormy on July 12, 2002 Cave exploration is not a loner activity and organizations world wide exist to support cave research. Do you know who they are? The premiere caving association in the United States is the National Speleological Society. Over 12,000 scientists, naturalists, environmentalists and just plain hobbyists belong to this group, the world’s largest caving organization. The focus of the NSS is on conservation, preservation, exploration and education. Over the last sixty years this group of dedicated professionals has advanced the study of caves, taking them from being holes in the ground to isolated ecosystems and integral parts of our environment.
