A Visit to Franklin by Stormy on July 31, 2007 Everyone should visit a small town to see what life is like in a place where people don't feel the need to lock their doors. Having already established that I am a fan of Ben Franklin, the opportunity to visit a town named after him was too good to pass up. Franklin, Indiana is a small town, population 20,000, a half hour south of Indianapolis. Being the Johnson County seat does little to wake up the slow pace in this community. Their biggest industry appears to be Franklin College, a 1,000 student enrollment liberal arts college. The town centers around a magnificent courthouse, completed in 1882. A large circle of community type businesses such as diners and ice cream parlors surround the building. Slow life may not be the thing for everyone, but it is an interesting way to spend a day to unwind from a long and busy trip. |
