The Long Road Home
by Stormy on August 01, 2007

Is there adventure to crossing several states in one day?

Just like the trip out, the trip home was a long driving stretch, but there are spots along the way to pull over and see the sites. It's been a long twelve days, many starting with early mornings and ending with late nights. The few hours of sleep in between were hardly enough to rest and the sum total of a long vacation was coming home more tired than when leaving. There's a certain irony to needing a vacation after coming home from a vacation, but it's also a sign of having done a lot and seen a lot. The bonus is getting a good long nap at the end of the trip.

Early in the morning Stormy crosses from Indiana into Illinois. By crossing time zones heading west, you get time back.

Northwest of St. Louis Stormy finds a fire truck available for a photograph. The crew from the Robertson Fire Protection District isn't accustomed to having marmots climb up on their truck!

Stormy took an opportunity to visit Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, Missouri. Kind of looks like the entrance to a big cave, doesn't it?

In the casino lobby Stormy shows off his shiny new Star Awards card. Yes, it's okay for adult marmots to gamble!

The front of the casino has a wonderfully choreographed fountain where dancing streams of water put on an exciting show.

During the show bursts of water shoot up into the air, interacting and exploding against each other.

A second stop at the Graham Cave State Park in Missouri was mandatory. Stormy wanted to visit the cave during the day.

Finally, an entrance large enough for a marmot!

Early in the afternoon Stormy was back in Kansas.

Kansas can be a trying long drive, but there's one really exciting diversion half way through the state -- Russell-Stover Candies!

There's no real chocolate in there, but Stormy didn't know that yet.

Back home in Colorado under a cloudy sky! It's good to be home!
