Commercial Marmots by Summer on February 28, 2010 Some people describe retail as a three ring circus. It probably is. I got to watch deal-making today and it’s a tough job to have! I visited the Denver Merchandise Mart today because I got word that Platte River Trading has come out with a new design of the yellow-bellied marmot and being a Platte River Trading marmot myself, I had to take a look at what the upcoming competition was. The Denver Merchandise Mart is the retail association that services all the merchants in the Rocky Mountain area and beyond. It’s the biggest market between Las Vegas and Chicago and caters to tens of thousands of independent retailers. I wandered the Mart and I’ll guess that there must have been over a thousand vendors there, each representing multiple product lines. And the place was packed and full of energy! Platte River Trading is a Denver based manufacturer of all sort of stuffed animals. They have a long track record of developing specialty animals and many years of marmot evolution. I spent a long time nose to nose with the new yellow-bellied marmot and in the end I have to say that I’m a little jealous. It looks good! The Denver Gift, Home, Jewelry and Resort Show was a fun outing. I got to see a lot of fun stuff, but meeting the new marmot was the best part! |
